CHALLENGE #1 - DRAWING AND DANCE - PART 2

LISTEN TO THE TASKS IN THIS AUDIO CLIP:

OR FOLLOW THE WRITTEN TASKS HERE:

Task 1:  Having followed tasks 1-8 in Challenge #1 - Part 1, you now have a drawing of yourself dancing! Let’s call this your first drawing.

Now have a look at your first drawing and choose what bits you like best.

Task 2: When you have chosen the bits you like best, highlight them by drawing or taping a frame around them.

Task 3: Now you can make a new drawing by looking at the shape and lines of the framed area of your first drawing.

Exercise-3.jpg

You could try using different drawing materials like crayons, pastels or felt tips. Your new drawing could even be a collage made from pieces of cardboard, magazine or newspaper. You can be creative and really play with its colours and textures.

We have pasted an example here of a framed drawing and the new collage created from it.

Congratulations! Now you have a new drawing created from the favourite bits of your first drawing, the one you made of yourself dancing!

Corali’s dancer Bethan Kendrick used pastels when she created this task. She asked Clifton Wright from Intoart to help her with different pastel techniques. You can see her drawing here.

Task 4:  You could repeat Task 3 to make another new drawing. You could make more drawings and create a collection.   Bethan made four other drawings when she did this task to make this beautiful collection:

Task 5: Now you can enjoy these drawings! Maybe you can pin them up or lay them on the floor. You could even photograph them to send to your friends and family.

Task 6:  Have a good look at your drawings. Look at the shapes, lines and colours. What can you see? Are there any patterns?

Task 7:

Now you can have fun and create a new dance from these new drawings!  Bethan used these instructions to create a dance from her drawing collection:

  • You can use the shapes to invent movement. You can try tracing out what shapes you see in your drawing in the air in front of you. You could start with your hands or arms, like you are painting through the air.

  • You can put the movements together to make a sequence. You could put your drawings in a line on the wall of floor. You could try dancing your movements in this order. You can then change the order of your drawings and then try dancing them in this new order.

  • You can repeat bits that you like, or repeat the whole dance to make it longer.

  • Now you can try dancing different sections very slow or very fast.

  • Try putting all these ways of moving together

You now have a new dance made from your own drawings! Congratulations!

This is the dance Bethan made from her drawings:

Challenge #1 - Drawing and Dance - Parts 1 and 2 are now complete! You could perform your dance to friends and family or film yourself dancing. You could also showcase your artwork!

If you like you could send us a picture of your drawing to admin@corali.org.uk we would love to share it on our social media pages!
