EVERYBODY WITH ME, ALWAYS

Corali is really excited to be working with Freestylers and supporting them with their upcoming show, EVERYBODY WITH ME, ALWAYS. The show will be touring in 2021-2022 at Goldsmiths CCA, BALTIC, Tramway and Bluecoat

The first leg of the tour will be taking place at Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art, with 3 performance dates:

Friday 24th September 2021, Friday 1st October 2021, Friday 8th October 2021 6-8pm

Corali met Freestylers - formally Deptford Freestylers - about 3 years ago at a performance at Goldsmiths. We were blown away by their energy, approach and the shared ownership of each of the dancers. When Roly invited Corali dancers down to their regular sessions we knew our dancers would feel welcomed and energised. Our dancers really enjoyed meeting Roly, and Roly and his dancers were really impressed by the skills and enthusiasm of our dancers, so we were delighted when he asked us to be formal partners on their next project, Everyone with me Always. Since then we have been supporting 3 Corali dancers to attend their weekly sessions at Siobhan Davies Studios. Corali’s Engagement and Outreach Manager, Andrea has been supporting Corali dancers to access sessions, rehearsals and filming days, and working with the dancers to get a sense of what they want to achieve and share at the performances. Andrea went along to a session at Siobhan Davies and was asked to be part of the performance, so she will be dusting off her performing shoes and performing alongside DJ, Sheri and Nancy.

‘We have been making a film about journeys. We are going on journeys dressed in camouflage gear. We talk about our lives and speak in a creative way. We are building our connections with each other by having adventures together.’ DJ, Corali and Freestylers Dancer

About Freestylers

Freestylers is a team of people who have longstanding creative relationships built on care, support and trust. Freestylers is made up of artists with and without a disability and they often interrogate the idea of care because they believe it goes both ways. They believe that everyone in their group is powerful, so are passionate about finding ways to break down conventional power structures and share ownership of their work. Freestylers want to celebrate individuals but challenge individualism in the arts.

Freestylers provides a space where people can be seen if they choose to be, and become part of a wider cultural conversation about race, class, identity and gender which is shaping the future. They use performance and film in workshops to look for new and inclusive ways to communicate. Freestylers works in gallery spaces in the context of performance art. They want their spaces to feel relaxed and intimate. They want audiences to be able to come and go, shout and make noise, and to join in when they want to.

What should we expect from the performance and TOUR?

‘We couldn’t work together in the studio this year and we wanted to see each other in real life, so we started going on walks together. The work is a journey. We are going on tour for the first time and our first stop is Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art. We are meeting new people, finding out what we need and how we can help each other. Making more and more connections.

In the performance we will be sharing some films and live performances with you.  As well as some activities in a relaxed environment.  You can stand up, make noise, move around and join us if you feel like it. You can have a break when you need, or just relax and watch the show.’ Roland Carline
